Session Three, 4:00PM – 5:00PM, Oct 4, 2019
Social media is a huge part of our everyday lives. Our children are largely effected by constant, unrestricted device time. In order to better understand what our children are facing and how it is effecting them, we will take an in-depth look at the current social media landscape. This includes the consequences of unrestricted devices, what our children are saying about social media, negative psychological effects of constant device time, predator behavior (how they groom our children) and sex offender status due to inappropriate pictures. We will end the program with how to recognize, encourage and present positive social media involvement. The goal is for all attendees to leave feeing informed and empowered that they may return to their homes and confidently apply what was learned in order to create a safer social media environment for our children.
Kristi Bush Bio
Kristi Bush serves as a national education consultant, social media safety advocate and a guest lecturer and community advisor to Troy University’s MSW program. She has contributed and/or co-authored multiple training and development publications, with a primary focus in the areas of direct practice, quality and capacity building. In addition to her clinical work, she has extensive experience in social media. It was through her recognition of the education gap between receiving devices and teen use that KNB Communications was formed. As the mother of two young boys, she has both a professional and personal appreciation of the power…both positive and negative…. associated with social media. Kristi travels across the country supporting children, teens, parents, teachers and organization with increasing their understanding of the benefits and threats associated with social media. She has developed numerous programs that are designed to ensure children, teens, parents and educators can navigate social media safety and responsibly. Educating and empowering others is her absolute passion.
